Clarkson was born and raised at Burleson Texas (a town located just outside of Fort Worth), where her talent for singing was first noticed by her seventh-grade music teacher. Clarkson left high school to go into Los Angeles where she failed to get a job in the entertainment business. When she returned in Texas in 2002, she competed on the American Idol, a show broadcast by the Fox Broadcasting Co. American Idol. This singing competition gave viewers the chance to vote on their favorite performer. Clarkson's voice, charisma, and humor were instantly loved by the viewers. Clarkson took home $1 million and a contract recording in partnership with RCA as her prize.
