She has covered sports in many of the top publications around the world. She reported on basketball, football and Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols began a nine year stint at ESPN in which she won the two Emmy Awards, and featured in a variety of ESPN's most popular shows like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. Additionally, she was an assistant journalist on the Monday Night Football broadcasts. Next, she moved on onto CNN sports and then Turner. Unguarded: Rachel Nichols hosted her own show on CNN International. The show had more than one billion viewers around the world. Nichols was also a reporter on behalf of TNT in NBA broadcasts during the playoffs as well as broadcasts for the All-Star game. Nichols also worked for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. In the 42 year history of this award, this was the only time a woman had been among the 200+ nominees.
